Silence of the Collegiate Lines, 2012
"Silence of the Collegiate Lines" is a series of spiral-bound drawings that transforms the familiar vocabulary of lined paper. By drawing the ruled lines by hand with ink, the artist creates a new context for this everyday stationary, turning it into a playful and animated space. The slow progression from one drawing to the next invites the viewer on a poetic journey, as the lines shift, rotate, multiply, and separate, creating a dynamic composition. The lines converge, intersect, detour, change color, drip, weave, snap, and even break, transforming the mundane and functional into a quirky and animated space. This minimal yet powerful approach to lined paper explores the beauty in the familiar, and invites the viewer to consider the unexpected potential of the everyday.
